A photography contest by SMART Foundation invites photographers from Bulgaria and Switzerland to submit for consideration their best work related to environmental sustainability.
What does Environmental Sustainability mean? That is the responsible human-environment interaction to avoid depletion or degradation of natural resources and allow for long-term environmental quality. For this photography contest we are focusing on the human element in the fine line or in the big contrast between the three pillars of the sustainability: the environmental protection, the social development and the economic development.

Winners will receive a total of BGN 3,450 (Bulgarian Lev) in awards, media coverage and public recognition.
The Jury Award winner will receive BGN 500 plus financing and help for publishing a photographic book, worth BGN 2000. The second prize is BGN 400 and the third prize is BGN 300. The People Award winner will receive BGN 250.

Stoyan Nenov is a professional Reuters photographer, 2016 Pulitzer Prize Winner in Breaking News Photography, who covers social features, sports events and politics, and travels across Europe to help cover general and breaking news. His favorite quote is “A good picture should make sense to everyone, regardless of their social status or geographic location.”
Krasimira Velichkova is the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Donors Forum, a membership network of foundations and corporate donors in Bulgaria, who believe that philanthropy is a tool for social change and who work together to achieve it.
Prolet Velkova is a long-standing journalist, radio host and producer in Darik radio, Bulgaria. One of the top 100 most influential women in Bulgaria according Capital, a leading Bulgarian weekly business newspaper.
Each photo must have a title and a description of the story and the date of the image.
Image format must be JPEG, long edge size must be at least 3000 pixels, resolution no less than 240 ppi. The only allowed photographic manipulations are: crop, levels, white balance, curves, sharpen, lens corrections and black and white conversion. Only photos matching all requirements will qualify.
Up to 3 single photographs or a series of up to 5 photographs covering the same subject.

Submission must contain your full name, the photos, photo titles and descriptions, your phone number and a link to your Facebook profile (if you have such).
You should receive an auto-reply if your submission is successful. If the total size of your work is over 25 MB, please use wetransfer instead and email us the download link.

All professional or non-professional visual artists/photographers, individuals who are legal residents of Bulgaria or Switzerland and has reached the age of majority.
None. There is no entry fee.
The Jury Award Winner will receive BGN 500 plus financing, support and help for publishing a photographic book*, worth the equivalent of BGN 2000. The second prize is BGN 400 and the third prize is BGN 300. The People Award Winner will receive BGN 250. All the winners and the top runner ups will participate in at least 3 public exhibitions*, in Sofia and Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The Jury Award Winner will also receive an additional media visibility *. All the winning images will be featured on the SMART Foundation and Bulgarian-Swiss Cooperation Programme sites/social media pages*.
The winners will be notified by email between 27 March 2017 and 3 April 2017.
It is the winner responsibility to pay any taxes in her/his country.
